Southwest of Florence, Fattoria San Michele a Torri is one of the historic estates of Chianti Colli Fiorentini.
Distinct from Chianti Classico to the south, Colli Fiorentini has its own identity, shaped by its proximity to Florence, varied elevations and a long agricultural tradition. San Michele a Torri is one of its important historic properties, with the estate and surrounding village documented as far back as the 12th century.

The modern story of the estate began in 1987, when Paolo Nocentini acquired San Michele a Torri and began restoring and expanding its vineyards and agricultural holdings. Organic farming has been central to the family’s approach since 1993, with the estate now extending across the Colli Fiorentini and, more recently, into Chianti Classico. The wines are anchored in the character of the Florentine hills and the traditional varieties of the region.

During the fighting around Florence in 1944, the estate's cellars sheltered local residents as the battle reached the surrounding hills, a reminder of the role the fattoria has played in the life of the community. Today it remains a working agricultural estate, with vineyards, olive groves, woodland and farmland surrounding the historic villa.

The Nocentini family has built their estate's reputation around considered organic farming and commitment to the character of Florentine Chianti. Their wines offer distinctive expression of Sangiovese: less about the conventions associated with Chianti Classico, and more about the freshness, savoury character and understated structure of Chianti Colli Fiorentini.

2024 Chianti Colli Fiorentini

A classic expression of Chianti Colli Fiorentini in the traditional Florentine style of Sangiovese. The estate has been farming organically since 1993, and the wine reflects the focus on vineyard health, traditional varieties and an honest expression of place. From the hills southwest of Florence, it offers bright acidity, savoury character and supple structure that distinguish the best wines of Colli Fiorentini.

Winemaking

Sangiovese-led, with traditional Tuscan varieties, harvested by hand from the estate’s organically farmed vineyards in the hills of Chianti Colli Fiorentini. Fermentation and maturation focus on preserving freshness and character.

Tasting Notes

Bright, fragrant and brimming with fresh red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry alongside violet, dried herbs and earthy savouriness. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. Classic Sangiovese in a lighter, energetic Florentine style, with structure and immediate drinkability.
